Key Technological Improvements

New Small-Sized Paddle Blades

The most notable change to the endurance paddle is the introduction of entirely new small-sized blades.

  • By using smaller blades, paddling becomes easier and requires less effort. (Since the blades are positioned at the ends of the double-blade paddle, reducing the weight at both ends makes the paddle easier to swing.) This improvement greatly minimizes wasted effort during the paddling stroke.

  • With the smaller blades, each stroke requires less energy, but the paddling frequency can be increased. This is more suited to the propulsion needs of packrafts. Large single-direction thrust can cause the raft to sway, reducing efficiency. A moderate thrust at a steady pace results in higher energy efficiency and less fatigue. When higher speed is needed, the paddler can increase stroke frequency to compensate.

  • Due to the wide beam of packrafts, small blades are more easily submerged. This allows for a low-angle paddling technique, which reduces shoulder strain and minimizes water splash.

  • The small blades aren’t simply scaled-down versions of larger blades. The curvature of the blade’s arc has been optimized to meet new thrust requirements, ensuring a smoother and more efficient paddling stroke.

26mm Diameter Small Paddle Shaft

The new 26mm diameter shaft improves grip comfort. For individuals with larger hands, silicone grip covers can be added for additional comfort.

New Water Block Ring

The newly designed water block ring is tailored to match the small paddle blades and 26mm outer diameter of the shaft.

Paddle Buoyancy

To keep the paddle lightweight, no buoyant materials are used in the shaft. However, the air inside the shaft provides buoyancy. After testing, it was confirmed that the paddle can float for over 24 hours when submerged in water (tested in still water conditions).

Intended Use

Long-distance paddling, recreational paddling

(Note: Due to the design...not suitable for whitewater paddling.)
